About the Centre
The United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region was established in 2009 in Doha, Qatar and is a regional Centre under the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, mandated to undertake human rights training, education, and documentation activities in the Arab Region (22 counties) and Southwest Asia (Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq), according to international human rights standards. The Centre supports such efforts by Governments, UN agencies and programmes, national human rights institutions, and works closely with academic institutions, human right defenders and civil society organizations.
The Centre’s work focuses on the following four portfolios:
- Human rights training
- Human rights education
- Knowledge management
- Human rights documentation
The Center is based in Qatar, its mandate extends to 25 countries
