Webinar on Advancing and Protecting Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (A Regional Perspective from the Middle East and North Africa)

Description

The UN Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, under its Knowledge Management and Documentation Unit, delivered a webinar on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The webinar is part of a campaign by the Centre, with support from the ESCR Section, to reaffirm the significance of economic, social and cultural rights within a comprehensive human rights framework, and to enhance awareness of their role in supporting human dignity and sustainable development. The webinar, which was attended by 145 participants, provided a comprehensive, multi-stakeholder overview of the situation of ESCR in the region, through contributions from experts from the Committee on ESCR, National Human Rights Commission in Qatar and the Arab NGO Network for Development. The webinar, which garnered a high engagement level from the participants, also provided an opportunity to introduce them to OHCHR resources on ESCR that can support their work.
