Training of Trainers on Designing, Managing and Delivering Effective Human Rights Training
Training of Trainers on Designing, Managing and Delivering Effective Human Rights Training
Program Background:
Effective human-rights training empowers rights holders, strengthens duty bearers, and helps professionals meet their obligations. Before launching any course, organisers should analyse the context, identify the problem the training seeks to address, build on existing efforts, and allocate resources efficiently.
Drawing on wide experience and external expertise, OHCHR has developed a comprehensive methodology, set out in the manual “Human Rights Training Methodology: From Planning to Impact.” The manual covers context analysis, needs assessment, course design, delivery, follow-up, and impact evaluation.
The ToT programme will introduce this methodology and address:
● Designing and organising training
● Delivering training (presentations, interactive techniques, facilitation)
● Assessing training needs and measuring impact
● Adult-learning theory
● Handling challenging audiences
Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe and apply OHCHR’s human-rights training methodology.
2. Assess learning needs for specific target groups.
3. Design and organise a human-rights training course.
4. Use key elements of participatory presentations and facilitation.
5. Compare and select appropriate training techniques.
6. Manage different audiences with confidence.
Methodology :
The course follows OHCHR’s human rights training methodology, with a needs assessment after nominations and pre-/post-training evaluations, plus ongoing feedback. It is highly participatory with discussions, group work, case studies, role plays/simulations, and practical exercises, and encourages participants to share their experiences throughout the training.
Materials for all sessions will be provided, and expectations are set on day one, checked daily, and reviewed at the end
Participants are required to attend the training in its entirety to receive the final certificate of attendance.
