Background:
As part of the Human Rights Education Unit's strategy, the Centre works to promote human rights education and awareness through the arts, including cinema. It encourages young people to produce human rights films that reflect their realities and experiences as well as addresses various human rights issues.
The program includes human rights films created by young filmmakers who participated in previous regional human rights film competitions organized by the Centre, in addition to screenings of human rights films produced by partner film institutions, such as the Festival and International Forum on Films and Human Rights (FIFTH). The program aims to provide a platform for artistic expression and to shed light on youth issues and human rights in the Arab region.
Main Objective:
The main objective of the program is to use cinema as a tool to enhance youth awareness of human rights, empower young filmmakers to present their visions and experiences, and encourage community dialogue on pressing human rights issues.
Specific Objectives:
The program aims to:
- Empower young people to express their experiences and perspectives on human rights through cinematic media.
- Highlight the challenges and human rights issues facing youth and local communities.
- Support cooperation between young filmmakers, the Centre, and regional and international film institutions.
- Promote societal understanding of human rights values, diversity, non-discrimination, and equality.
Target Group:
Young filmmakers, students, researchers, civil society actors, and individuals interested in the arts and human rights in the Arab region.
Methodology:
The program is based on screening films at universities or other youth platforms, followed by interactive discussion sessions that bring together filmmakers and participants to enhance dialogue, share experiences, and build the artistic and human rights capacities of young people.
Expected Outcomes:
The program is expected to contribute to:
- Increasing public awareness of human rights issues through youth cinematic experiences.
- Strengthening the capacities of young filmmakers in artistic and human rights expression.
- Supporting active youth participation in promoting a culture of human rights and contributing to community dialogue.
