Online Workshop: Preparing and Drafting Shadow Reports on Women’s Rights, Children’s Rights, and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Description

On 2 April, the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre (UNTDC), in cooperation with the Qatar Social Work Foundation (QSWF), organized an online workshop on “Preparing and Drafting Reports on Women Rights, Children Rights, and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” for the benefit of 15 representatives from QSWF, including 8 women. The objective of the workshop was to enhance participants’ understanding of the role of civil society organizations in engaging with the Committees on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Rights of the Child (CRC), and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), including in the preparation and submission of shadow reports. Participants were introduced to the mandates of these Committees, as well as to the general and specific guidelines for report drafting and preparation. The workshop also emphasized the importance of using human rights indicators to measure progress in implementing the Committees’ recommendations. It further provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and good practices. Participants represented eight (8) Centres and organizations working on women’s rights, children’s rights, and the rights of persons with disabilities, namely: Ihsan Centre, Dreama Centre, Shafallah Centre, Aman Centre, Al Noor Centre, Wifaq Centre, Nama Centre, and the Qatar Social Work Foundation.
