The Knowledge Management and Documentation Unit, with support from the OHCHR Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Section, is excited to announce the launch of its new E-Learning course “Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR): the Basics”.
The course aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of government officials, National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), and a wide range of stakeholders, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), university students, human rights defenders and journalists in the field of ESCR. The course is designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of ESCR, enhance their ability to engage duty bearers, and build practical skills for monitoring, reporting, and advocating for rights. Through international standards and hands-on tools, the course equips learners to advance accountability and integrate ESCR more effectively into their work.

Learning Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
-Define the basics of ESCR, key rights, principles, corresponding duty bearers, and rights holders.
-Define State obligations to respect, protect, and fulfil ESCR.
-Explain how to integrate ESCR principles into the work of stakeholders to promote and protect these rights effectively.
-Explain methods for monitoring and reporting ESCR progress and violations to ensure accountability and compliance with standards.

-Search for the course “Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: The Basics”
-Start the course. The course is self-paced. You will receive a certificate upon completion.
*This course is in English. The Arabic version of the course is in development and will be launched by October 2026
