Young human rights educators from the MENA region developing their training skills in Budapest
This week, from 29 September to 6 October, the residential phase of the 2026 Training in Human Rights Education (THRE) Programme is taking place at the European Youth Centre in Budapest. The programme runs from May to December and comprises an initial e-learning phase, an eight-day residential course and follow-up activities. Organized by the Council of Europe in cooperation with OHCHR, the programme strengthens the skills of participants to develop and deliver quality human rights education with young people and to act as trainers and multipliers in their own organizations and communities. The 2026 edition builds on previous editions, which were also organized collaboratively.
For 2026, OHCHR is supporting the expansion of the programme’s reach to the MENA region. Accordingly, the Human Rights Education Unit/GLO in Geneva and the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre in Doha (UNTDC) are working together to sponsor and support the participation of five young human rights educators identified by MENA field presences. The participants bring to the course their experience and are expected to take the learning forward through human rights education initiatives in their contexts, helping multiply the impact of the programme.
