Preparatory dialogue : MENA Consultation on Children’s Rights and Safety in the Digital Environment

Description

On 22 September 2026, the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, jointly with the Arab Council for Childhood and Development (ACCD) and the Arab Network for Child Rights – Manara, organized a preparatory dialogue ahead of the MENA consultation on children’s rights and safety in the digital environment, scheduled for 13 October 2026.

The dialogue introduced stakeholders to the Human Rights Council resolution 56/5 and OHCHR process, with particular focus on the survey through which stakeholders can contribute to the OHCHR report to the Human Rights Council. Participants received practical guidance on how to complete and submit the survey, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that perspectives, priorities and experiences on children’s rights and safety in the digital environment from the MENA region are reflected in the global process. 70 participants joined from 12 Arab countries (government entities and civil society organizations) from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco,  Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia and  United Arab Emirates.
