Regional Webinar on “Empowering Youth through Sport.” – December 3, Webinar

Description

The Centre organized a regional online webinar to highlight relevant international frameworks and standards, while emphasizing the link between sport and rights related to health, education, cultural participation, and non-discrimination. The webinar also showcased UNESCO’s role in promoting sport as a safe and inclusive space, within the framework of the “Sport for Life” initiative, alongside an intervention by the Sports Unit at the headquarters of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which addressed the integration of a human rights-based approach into sports policies and programmes at the international level. Youth participants shared inspiring experiences from the region on the role of sport in promoting social inclusion, empowering girls and persons with disabilities, and eliminating stereotypes and violence. The webinar was attended by 110 participants from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen.
