Human Rights Through The Lens of Youth – 1st Edition

The Centre through its Human Rights Education and Knowledge Management Portfolios launched for the regional short film competition “Human Rights through the Lens of Youth” inviting young filmmakers aged 18 to 30 from the Arab region and Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan to use their talents and voices to shed light on crucial human rights issues affecting their communities. Registrants to the competition attended awareness raising sessions where they were introduced to topics including Youth Human Rights and the Ethics and Techniques of Storytelling on Human Rights. 24 films were received from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen. Upon assessment by a panel of judges two winners were selected, one male one female. They participated in the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Geneva in March 2025 where their films were screened at the United Nations Palais des Nations.

Human Rights Through The Lens of Youth – 2nd Edition

The Centre, in collaboration with AlJazeera Public Liberties and Human Rights Centre, launched the second edition of the film competition. 110 applications were received from youth from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen. The young filmmakers attending awareness sessions on youth human rights and filmmaking considerations around human rights issues.
